Notes From My Desk #7: I freak out about AI 🤖
+ then calm down again. Here's how 👇
This week’s business diary entry features a minor panic over AI, a celebration of remote working (not in the UK!), and an IRL Reels workshop that made my heart sing. Not forgetting the regular ‘Easy Breezy Marketing Tip’ about how to grow your email newsletter from someone who is doing it really well.

On April 6th, my husband, Winston the corgi and I moved to Valencia to live and work for 9 weeks. This is possible because I am my own boss and my husband works for a company with a very flexible remote work policy.
We’re so lucky to be able to do this. Getting to experience a change of scenery, warm weather, eating out regularly, and practicing our Spanish (mine: terrible, my husband’s: brilliant!) is such a privilege.
Here are some of the highlights from the last six weeks:
Running down to the beautiful Jardín del Turia every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning
Drinking delicious ice-cold cava in the sunshine (why doesn’t it taste this good in the UK?!)
Having the BEST weekend in Madrid—a city I knew very little about and which took me totally by surprise with its vibrant art, music, and food scene… not to mention how beautiful it is! We also saw Picasso’s Guernica in the Reina Sofía Museum, which was very moving
Seeing Guernica and picking up a copy of Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises (which he started writing in Valencia) in our apartment, led me down a rabbit hole of research about the Spanish Civil War—a part of history I knew absolutely nothing about before now
Finding a local bistrot slightly off the beaten path that we’ve fallen in love with
Cycling along the beach with Winston the corgi in his backpack… never fails to make us (and so many others!) smile
Realising that I actually love Tiramisu. Yes, you read that right. There is a lot of excellent Italian food in Valencia and after tasting the coffee-based dessert to triple-check whether I did in fact still dislike it, I had a surprising revelation. It was delicious!
I also made an Instagram Reel with some of my foodie highlights!
My semi-regular AI freak outs 🤪
I don’t know about you, but every few weeks I have a little AI existential crisis. It normally follows a new product announcement or freaky story about an AI model making lots of money or creating a song that sounds freakishly good and like it rightfully belongs in the UK Top 40. I’ll slowly process what I’m hearing or seeing and then wonder if I’ll have a job this time next year.
